Social media trial latest: ‘You expect a nine-year-old to read T&Cs?’ Zuckerberg questioned in landmark case | US News

Mark Zuckerberg is shown a document distributed within Meta from a third party. It includes an email chain with a presentation titled “creating the future”.

The jury is told the presentation identifies opportunities “to unearth digital behaviour of 8-12s” and target the “heartland of Gen Z”.

Zuckerberg says: “Just to be clear this is something someone outside Meta produced that’s attached in an email I didn’t receive… I’m not sure what relevance is.”

Mark Lainer points out that the document includes testimony from a 12-year-old who says she enjoys using the Discovery section of Instagram.

“There are people who get around the restrictions, and we build tools to try and identify,” Zuckerberg says.

“I don’t have an exhaustive list of tools built over time, but I do believe we have worked on this before.

“I don’t think we identified every single person who tried to get around restrictions, but you’re implying we weren’t trying to work on it and that’s not true.”
